In 2019 I have visited Mexico for the first time which was also my first time stepping onto a different continent. I have visited Monterrey and Quintana Roo. Needless to say, I fell in love with its landscapes, food, and hospitality. Visiting the North of Mexico was such a fast pace, that I was only able to grab my camera a few times. That’s a pity because the raw beauty of Monterrey is more than photogenic, and I would have loved to document each and every sight that has taken my breath away. My Mexican friends who live there told me it wasn’t a place with many attractions for tourists and that I should rather travel to the South and central part of the country. I only had a few days before traveling to Playa del Carmen, so I decided to focus on my time with friends in Monterrey and abandon my touristic spirit for those few days. I had close to no expectations that I could like Monterrey that much so my surprise was even greater, as I saw the city growing into the wildness of the cordilleras. And bam! Once again it was clear to me how important it is to travel without expectations. Just go to a place and receive it as it is and chances are, you will discover something very special (and maybe it’ll only be special to you, but hey! That’s what life is all about). My friends put all the effort to show me the life there and I have loved the city and the nature surrounding it.
Later, I traveled to Quintana Roo. Life has slowed down and I finally had the chance to observe places through the lens of my camera. Eating seafood every day, drinking micheladas, and trying not to sunburn, I spent there a beautiful and relaxing time and came back to Berlin full of new insights and experiences.
